CHAPTER 4

The next morning, Sarah felt Lucian’s breath on her neck as she slowly began to wake. The morning sun cascaded across their bedroom floor and her eyes focused on the frost and snow on the edges of the window.

She smiled. It was Christmas Day. One day they would wake up, just like this on Christmas morning, and their children would break into their bedrooms, squealing with delight and begging to open their presents under the tree.

That was, of course, when Lucian was ready to venture into the realm of parenthood. He’d overcome so much already from his past, but when he was ready for parenthood, he’d know.

She removed his arm from around her waist and slid out from the bed, careful to not wake her mate. Reaching for her robe, she looked back, satisfied by his deep breathing that he was still fast asleep.

As she made her way to the window, the chill of the wood floor caused her to shiver slightly. A few inches of fresh snow covered the ground and with the sun’s light, it shimmered like glitter had been spilled across it.

So beautiful.

Sarah found her favorite fuzzy socks and slipped them on, then made her way to the kitchen. She started the coffee and began to think about last night.

Lucian taking on the role of Dom, her being the submissive, their shared claiming... It was what they both had needed.

And she was sore as fuck.

Everywhere.

I can’t tell him that, he would be proud and puff out his fucking chest like a damn puffer fish.

She poured herself a cup of coffee, added in a splash of cream, drop of sugar, then headed back to their bedroom. Finding Lucian still snoozing, she tiptoed into the bathroom and closed the door behind her.

Once she flicked on the light, she gasped at her own reflection. Her hair was a horrible mess, but that wasn’t what caught her by surprise. It was the bruises on her neck. When Lucian grabbed her last night, she didn’t realize how hard it was. Being caught up in the passion the way they were, something like this was bound to happen.

Aww, hell, he’s going to freak the fuck out.

She dropped the robe, lifted her arms, and examined them, finding nothing unusual. Same around her waist. Her hips had small fingertip bruises from where he had gripped her. She glanced down at her thighs and small purplish marks were around the inside of her knees as well.

“What the hell,” she whispered.

He didn’t do anything to warrant this much bruising.

With a sigh, she decided to write it off as being ridden hard and decided it was time to brush her teeth and clean up for the morning.

Reaching over to the shower, she turned on the hot water then went back to the sink to brush her teeth. The bathroom began to steam. She used the toilet to pee and yawned, flushed, then adjusted the water temperature. Stepping inside, she let a long sigh escape as the hot water ran down her backside.
